Spain in a Box: The Camino de Santiago Experience

The CAMINO de SANTIAGO Board Game is inspired by the famous pilgrimage walk in Spain. In 2025, after recovering from a serious illness, Annie decided it was time to do what she and her mother had always wanted to do together: walk the Camino. 

Annie took photos and made sketches to preserve the memory of the experience. Many of her original drawings are illustrations for the game.

About the Camino de Santiago

"The Camino" is a renowned UNESCO World Heritage network of pilgrimage routes that lead to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where the remains of Saint James are believed to be buried. Though traditionally a Catholic pilgrimage, the walk is popular with people of all backgrounds. ​

To earn the official “Compostela” certificate, pilgrims must walk at least 100km (or cycle 200km) and collect stamps in their pilgrim credentials at various locations.

HOW TO PLAY

Basic: Based on the traditional Mexican Lotería, this beautifully illustrated game introduces the Camino's landmarks, traditions and symbols. One player draws and announces cards. Each player marks matching images on a 'tabla' using the tokens. The first to complete a pattern yells "¡CAMINO!" to win! 

Before each game, players may agree on the pattern to play: simple (4 tokens), complex pattern (8 tokens), or the entire board. A player who wins 4 rounds win the games.
